The Portland Mercury is an alternative bi-weekly newspaper and media company founded in 2000 in Portland, Oregon. The paper self reports the readership as affluent urbanites in their 20s and 30s. This cover concept was based around the World Naked Bike Ride—a protest against our dependency on oil, for cyclist safety and in support of body positivity. The concept of this Portland Mercury Cover is inclusiveness. The entire cover is designed in vibrant colors, and friendly, blob-like illustrations. The design is meant to encourage readers to join in on the event taking place, and aimed to show the diversity and fun the Naked Bike Ride embodies.
